Learn Geography
Create mind map assignments following the steps from this section. Learn how to introduce group work to students and then use the following exercises to teach them how to learn collaboratively. You can also create other exercises that you think would fit well with the lessons you teach in class.
Exercise 1:
Ask groups to collect information about the geographical features of a country/state/county and organize it on a mind map. Please see the example below: a mind map about Brazil.
Optionally, you can create a mind map with a few guidelines and attach it to the assignment to help your students develop their mind maps. Please see the example below: a template that helps you learn about countries of the world.
Exercise 2:
Ask students to collect and organize information about the 7 continents of the world. You can ask them to complete this template:
Exercise 3:
Ask groups to complete this template with the main characteristics of the Oceans & Seas of the world. They can add the position of the sea/ocean, maximum depth, flora, and fauna of this sea.
Exercise 4:
Ask students to learn the most important rivers in the world and work together to complete this template with:
- the state where the river flows through
- the length of the river
- the source (the original point from where the river flows)
- the mouth (the place of the river where it drains into a larger water
- what are the affluents
- important facts about the rivers
